What happens if I find a crack in my concrete after it is laid?

Panorama Concrete Paving adheres to all requirements of the Building Code of Australia and often exceeds the Code requirements in the concrete mixes we use, the number of joints we install and the standard of steel reinforcing in our paving.

However even with the stringent standards we set for ourselves, there are environmental factors that cannot be predicted and cracks can occur. We believe that it is best to leave hairline cracks in concrete paving alone. With steel reinforcing installed in the paving the crack should not become larger over time.

Many people will have cracks fixed at a substantial cost only to find the cracks reappearing again later and the repair work can be more noticeable than the original crack. Even with the occasional crack, concrete paving is often a better looking long term option than individual pavers which will continue to move over time with weeds growing up between them.

How do I choose a concrete aggregate style to suit my home?

Choosing the right aggregate concrete depends on the look you want to achieve as well as the use of the area to be concreted. Concrete Companies provide special exposed aggregate mixes which come with more stones packed into the concrete than standard mixes. As well as this you can also choose smooth pebbles or different coloured stones even coloured glass to be added to the concrete when it is poured.

When making a decision, consider the use of the area, for example if it’s an area where children play, you will want smoother pebbles to walk on with bare feet or for riding bikes on. In patio areas lower profile aggregate mixes might be a better option under tables and chairs.

On driveways with a slope a more dense aggregate mix to achieve a rougher finish with more grip for tyres is a good option. We have many samples of exposed aggregate in our showroom and our consultants can provide advice on these issues.

If you sign up with us and pay a deposit you can take a couple of our 400mm X 400mm sample pieces home to see how they look next to your house.

How much aggregate do I use?

It is important to get the right amount of aggregate in your concrete and this comes down to the experience of the concrete installer that you choose.

Too much aggregate can be a problem particularly on driveways because if there isn’t enough concrete around the stones to set them in place, large junks can loosen and fall out. Too little aggregate means you will lose the effect that you wanted in the first place and it will look more like a plain slab of concrete.

Why would I colour my concrete?

People colour their concrete to match their homes, fencing and styles. Sometimes they will colour it to cover a problem area as well or for simple effect.

There are over 30 different colours to choose from.

Do I need to seal my concrete?

We recommend concrete is sealed after installation and include an application of sealer in all our Residential Contracts.

The sealer helps prevent lasting stains in concrete from oil, grease or wine etc which can become absorbed into porous concrete without sealer. The sealer will give your concrete a fresher look and is smoother to sweep clean in patio areas or carports.

How often do I need to reseal my concrete?

Sometimes it is a once-off process. Some people never reseal their concrete preferring it to weather into a very natural look.

However if you do want a reseal it is easy to bring your paving back to looking like new again.

Can I reseal my own concrete?

You can reseal your own concrete and we have a range of concrete re-sealers in our showroom in matt, gloss and coloured finishes.

We can provide advice and guidance on the process of resealing your concrete.

What are the advantages of pattern pave over concrete pavers?

There is a range of stamped concrete colours and patterns to choose from, so you will most likely find the ideal colour and texture for your home.

Concrete paving is durable and strong and usually will look better over time than pavers that have heaved and loosened with weeds growing between them.

How long does pattern pave last?

Concrete paving is strong and durable and should last forever. With an occasional reseal it will look like new again.

We installed pattern pave over thirty years ago that is still looking great today, see the photos on this website.
