Slate finish - Stamped Concrete

Stamped Concrete has long been part of our Decorative concrete range of products but with Exposed Aggregate being so popular of late, perhaps its value has been a little overlooked. Below are the benefits of stamped concrete.

Stamped concrete has been around since the 1980’s in Australia. Walking around Adelaide it is easy to see drives and paths dating from this period still looking as good as when they were installed.

Following are questions about stamped concrete we are often asked by our customers.

How is stamped concrete installed?

When the concrete supplier’s truck arrives on site our paving team will place the concrete into the formwork they have ready. They will then trowel the concrete to a smooth, even level. When the concrete has cured enough, polyurethane moulds (stamps) are placed over the surface to create pattern and texture.

How long will stamped concrete last?

Stamped concrete will last a life time. We have stamped concrete projects that look as good today as they did when they were installed over 30 years ago. It may need occasional resealing depending on traffic and use in the area.

Is stamped concrete expensive?

When you compare the cost of stamped concrete compared to high end quality pavers, it is often less expensive. To ensure pavers remain in place, the soil needs extensive preparation with a concrete slab laid to ensure no movement or subsidence adding to the cost of pavers.

Will stamped concrete increase my home’s value?

Yes it will. In fact any new concrete paving project will add value to your home. Stamped concrete with a wide range of integral colours and patterns available to match any style of house is guaranteed to add instant curb appeal and street presence.

What benefits does it have over concrete pavers?

If pavers are laid without a concrete slab underneath which is expensive, they will move apart especially in a driveway. This means lots of extra time weeding between the pavers, not to mention the unattractive look. Pavers can also subside over time which often means they will have to be re-laid costing about as much as when originally installed.

There are pattern stamps and colours available to suit both traditional and modern homes. There are large blocks and slate looks for modern homes and cobbles for a more rustic look around an older home.

Are the finishes slippery?

Any smooth surface can become slippery when wet, whether it is pavers, concrete or tiles. Addressing slippery surfaces is part of the conversation we have with our customers when designing their project for function and style. Patterns with more texture work well in this instance.

Will stamped concrete fade?

Any surface outside in our Australian sun will change somewhat. The colour in correctly laid stamped concrete will not disappear, no matter how long it has been down although like other surfaces it may dull down a bit over time. Your concrete paving might look better after an occasional cleaning and resealing to keep it looking fresh and new but this depends on how much it is being used and for what purpose. This goes for any style of concrete paving Exposed aggregate, stamped concrete and integral coloured concrete are all long lasting surfaces but may need an occasional clean and reseal.

How do I maintain it?

Stamped concrete does not need much maintenance. It is one of the benefits of laying this style of concrete – no subsidence, no weeding, and a good brush regularly will keep it clean and fresh. If there is heavier traffic, you can do a professional clean and reseal with Panorama Concrete or you can do it yourself most people do.
